About This Blog

A QualitEvolution is intended to capture positions and experiences as a participant in the evolution of the Quality profession into the 21st century. From its origins as the brainchild of Corporate Industrial Statisticians, our profession has transformed and evolved to incorporate and adapt to the demands and expectations of our modern existence.

The scope of the subject matter within A QualitEvolution extends to the furthest ranges of quality, business transformation, management science, and quality issues especially pertinent to the members of ASQ in Canada.

Recommended Reading - ASQ Open Access Articles

The latest post from View From The Q highlighted a collection of quality books that every professional should have within their library.  With respect to this list, I personally prefer the 4th edition of Juran's Quality Control Handbook to the 6th edition of Juran's Quality Handbook, largely because the earlier versions included more specific tactical quality engineering and statistical techniques and references.

Everyone will have their own opinions and preferences.  Three immediate additions to my list include Rapid Development by Steve McConnell, Software Engineering: A Practitioner's Approach by Roger Pressman, and The Customer-Driven Company by Richard Whiteley.

As source of quality content that complements these books, I have discovered the benefit of referring to the Open Access articles from ASQ Journals.  According to the Magazines and Journals page at ASQ's website, selected articles are made available in every issue.

An example of this is in the current issue of ASQ's Quality Management Journal.  An article linking Social Responsibility to Quality is available for free review.

I encourage ASQ Members and Quality practitioners to explore the Open Access articles within all of the ASQ journals.  This represents the current thought-leadership within the society.  Articles are more current and timely, and extend the breadth of knowledge beyond the limits of a textbook or reference material.  Articles often include case studies or dissertation summaries which support the hypothesis with actual proven evidence.

The world’s largest publisher of quality related products, ASQ offers eight peer-reviewed journals and magazines covering a wide range of topics.
